Here are 3 games to consider for Sunday’s first weekend in Serie A for today’s Serie A predictions and best bets.
Serie A Picks and Parlays #1
Frosinone vs Juventus Prediction
With Frosinone not in the top flight last season these teams last met in 2023-2024 with Juve winning 2-1, 4-0, and 3-2. Juve is 6-1-0 in their short all-time history and have won each of the past 6.
Frosinone had a solid prep for their return to Serie A with a record of 3-2-1 in the warm-ups, with their only loss being 2-1 to Lazio, but that could give us some insights here. Lazio are a mess on and off the pitch and obviously not as good as Juve.
Having guided Frosinone to the Serie B title, head coach Massimilano Alvini is back on the sidelines. Frosinone spent around 17 million euros, with midfielder Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen being the biggest a 8.5 million. They’d added other players from top leagues as well from Salzburg, Napoli
Juventus, for a big team, had a pretty lengthy preseason. They went 5-1-1. They scored just 9 goals in those 7 games but also only allowed 2, both to Inter, a 2-1 loss. The highlight win was a 1-0 over Chelsea. They are looking for improvement after missing out on UCL play by winning just 1/5 to end the season.
The offseason news saw them bring in Kolo Muani from PSG, Vicario from Tottenham, Alajbegovic from Leverkusen and Lucumi from Bologna, and they haven’t lost too many big players, but Vlahovic is off to Besiktas, who was 2nd in goals last season with 7, but only played 19 games and less than 1,000 minutes.
If the preseason is any indication, this could be a Juve win, but it may be close or lower-scoring.
- Serie A picks: Juventus to win
Venezia vs Lecce Prediction
It’s two teams from different leagues last season meeting here, but … with Lecce 17th and just 4 points above the relegation zone and Venezia winning Serie B at 24-10-4, there may not be much between them. Especially when you look at Venezia’s home record which was 17-0-2, outscoring teams 44-12.
Lecce’s preseason was up and down with a 1-0 win, 1-0 loss, 2-2 draw, 5-2 win, 1-0 win and finally a 2-0 loss.
Head coach Eusebio Di Francesco was relegated with Venezia but coached Lecce last season. So he gets to face his old team. According to Transfermarkt, Lecce actually spent the least this offseason but added a new attacker in Willem Geubbels who had 8 goals with St. Gallen and Paris FC last year.
Venezia’s preseason is mostly all good news. They went 4-1-1 and outscored opponents 23-10. They even beat Galatasaray 3-0. But they also allowed 2, 2, and 4 goals in their last 3.
Venezia has spent big in the offseason with over 40 million Euros of purchases which is 8th in the league. The 2 biggest are CF Akor Adams from Sevilla for over 16 million and CF Albion Rrahmani for 7.5m from Sparta Prague. CB Armel Bella-Kotchap joins from Verona for 7 million.
For Adams, he led Sevilla in goals (10), direct goal contributions (14) and shots (63), while also providing the joint-second-most assists (four).
The teams didn’t meet last season being in different leagues but in 2024 it was 1-0 Lecce and 1-1. The two scores before that were 1-0 and 1-1 in the promotion playoffs in 2021.
- Serie A picks: Venezia to score in the parlay or draw (+210)
- Parlay Picks: JUV win / VEN to score (-117)
Serie A Picks and Parlays #2
Atalanta vs Sassuolo Prediction
Atalanta may have finished higher in the standings last year in 7th vs Sassuolo’s 11th, but Sassuolo got the best of the head-to-head matchup winning both meetings 3-0 and 2-1. Someone has scored multiple goals in each of their last 5, someone has scored 3 goals in 3/4 and there’s only been under 2 goals scored once in the past 23. The BTTS has hit in 14/19.
Atalanta’s preseason has seen wins of 2-1, 3-2, 3-0 and 1-0, and 1 loss of 2-1 against Feyenoord. Notably, Feyenoord was likely the toughest team they played and lost. But they also beat Bilbao 1-0.
This match is sandwiched around their Conference League Playoff game with Hapoel Tel-Aviv. They played Thursday and drew 0-0. And then again next week.
Their offseason, starts with Maurizio Sarri coming over as coach, having previously been with Lazio.
Sassuolo went 2-2-3 in the preseason and just allowed 7 goals in their last two vs Augsburg and Celta. The 2 wins were their first two games and against lowly opponents like Alta Anaunia and Padova. But, their first competitive match was a success, beating Cesena 3-0 in the Coppa Italian on Monday with goals from Volptato, Adzic and Lipani.
They also have a new, and rather unexperienced coach in Alberrto Aquilani, who only has a single season at Pisa and Serie B side Catanzaro on his resume. Player-wise Ismael Kone was injured with Canada in the World Cup.
On the player front, a big addition is Vasilije Adzic from Juve, while Tarik Muharemovic was transferred to Leeds
