With the winer break we only have EPL and Serie A playing this weekend in the top four leagues. I’ve still found 8 games, 6 in the EPL on Saturday and 2 in Serie A on Sunday to target for this week’s best bets.

Nottingham Forest vs Man City Prediction

Forest does have a recent home win over City but that was a stronger version of the team that we have this year. Still, they’ve improved with wins in 2/3 and 6/9 and only 3 losses in 11.

But Man City are flying having won 7 in a row by scores of 3-2, 5-4, 3-0, 2-1, 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0. As always, Haaland is usually involved in some way. He’s scored 1/2/2 goals in his last 3 and only twice all season has he not put a shot on target in the EPL.

Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction

Leaders Arsenal host 9th Brighton. Arsenal doesn’t win in style but they do usually win and they’re still undefeated at home in the EPL, scoring 20, allowing 3. And in fact are undefeated at home anywhere, with only 2 losses in 26 overall matches. But, recent wins of 2-1 and 1-0 over Everton have been less than impressive. 

On Tuesday they played in the EFL Cup vs Crystal Palace and won but it took some effort. Tied 0-0, they got on the board with a Palace own goal in the 80’ only to see Palace tie it in the 95’. The game needed PKs where Arsenal won 8-7. 

Brighton are 2-2-4 away and outscored 12-9. But home or away, the Seagulls are winless in 4 games now and have been shut out 2-0 an 0-0 vs Liverpool and Sunderland. 

 While they tied 1-1 in both games last year, the last meeting in London was 2-0 Arsenal this season in the EFL Cup.

Burnley vs Everton Prediction

If not for Wolves, we’d talking more about how bad Burnley has been at 3-2-12 and outscored 34-19. It’s been 2 months since they got a win, and had lost 7 in a row before drawing Bournemouth 1-1 last week. It’s been 9 games in a row of conceding and 16/17 have seen the ball find the back of their net. 

Everton are solid but unspectacular at 7-3-7, 10th, but actually outscored 20-18. They’ve lost and been shut out 2 straight, 1-0 and 2-0, but to the likes or Arsenal and Chelsea. 

It’s a winnable game for the Toffies and they have won 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 in the last 3 meetings. But it could be close. Everton to score or double chance. Or even the Under 3.5, that’s 15-2 for Everton.

Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction

Brentford, 12th with 23 points, hosts Bournemouth 15th with 22 points. The Bees have one of the better home records at 5-2-1 and scoring 16 goals. Bournemouth have been weak away, at 1-3-4 and being outscored 23-15. The 23 GA are the 2nd-most GA on the road after Wolves. 

That said, Brentford has 1 win in 5, last game, a 2-0 win over Wolves. Otherwise, they had conceded in 8 straight. There’s been 2+ goals in each of their past 12 games and in 18/21 overall matches this season.

It’s worse on the Bournemouth side, now winless in 8. Though they have drawn 3 in a row 0-0, 4-4 and 1-1. They’ve conceded in 7/8 and a total of 18 in that time. They’ve also scored 9 goals in 6 games. There’s been 2+ goals in 8 of their last 10.

With Antoine Semenyo (8G/3A) they’ll always have a chance to score, something he’s done in back-to-back games. 

When they played in the EFL Cup in August Brentford won 2-0 on the road. Other scores have been 2-1, 3-2, 2-1 and 2-2, with Brentford undefeated in all of those, and now in 8 straight.

Liverpool vs Wolves Prediction

Liverpool may have their troubles, but Wolves are in a world all of their own. After losing 2-0 to Brentford last week, they have 2 points in 17 games and have tied the 2020-21 Sheffield United team for the fewest points at Xmas in EPL history. Not only that, it’s the fewest in all 4 divisions of English football. 

It goes without saying Liverpool should here. Wolves have lost 11 in a row and given up multiple goals in 9 of those 11. 

Liverpool has won the last 5 vs Wolves including 2-0, 3-1, 2-0 and last year 2-1 and 2-1. 

The drama around Liverpool has subsided a little bit, now undefeated in 6 with 3 straight wins. Salah is away at AFCON so that story can die down for now. They did lose Isak to a broken leg though last week. That does mean there’s no reason Ekitike not to play. He’s scored 5 goals in 4 games and has 16 shot attempts and 7 on target in that time.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction

The game of the weekend looks to be 4th Chelsea hosting 3rd Aston Villa.

Chelsea haven’t been perfect at home at 4-2-2, that’s only the 12th-best home mark. But they’ve won 2-0, 3-1 and drew 2-2 in their last 3 overall matches. They’ve scored in 22 of their past 23 games this season. They’ve also conceded in 5/7. 

Villa are the hottest team in the league, now with 10 straight wins across all comps and remarkably they’ve scored multiple goals in 9 of them. Last week it was a 2-1 win over Man U. Morgan Rodgers is on fire with 2 goals in back-to-back games and leading the team with 8 overall goals. He’s had 12 shots and 5 on target in this last 2 games too. 

The only negative for Villa is that they’ve conceded in 5 in a row and 7/8. 

Both won at home last season, Chelsea 3-0 and then Villa 2-1. The BTTS & Over 2.5 is 3-1 and simply Over 2.5 is 4-0.

I see a draw (+280) or BTTS (-150). Or maybe BTTS (-145) and Rodgers 1+ shot on target (+140).

Soccer Picks and Parlays #4

An all Serie A parlay.

Bologna vs Sassuolo Prediction

 6th Bologna hosts 10th Sassuolo and 4 points separates them. 

After going undefeated in 12 matches, Bologna has cooled off with just 2 wins in 7. Last week they drew Inter 1-1 in the Supercoppa, then won in PKs. But on Monday they weren’t great in the final, losing 2-0 to Napoli and they’ve now scored just 1 goal in 3 games. But, those opponents are Juve, Inter and Napoli. But they’ve also conceded in 8 straight too.

Sassuolo is all over the map. Only once this season have they won back-to-back games and not since October 3. They have only 1 win in 5, are winless in 2, have scored in 6/8, but conceded in 5/5 and 8/9. Sassuolo games are among the higher scoring in Italy at 2.6 GPG and they’re 9-7 to Over 2.5 totals. 

Bologna is 2-2-0 in the last 4 vs Sassuolo in what is derby game between team only 50km apart. There’s been 2+ goals between them in 13 straight. In 10/13 there’s been 3+.

Atalanta vs Inter Milan Prediction

9th Atalanta will host table-toppers Inter on Sunday afternoon. 

La Dea have won 3 in a row and 6/7 in all comps, while scoring in 8 straight. 

Inter last played in the Supercoppa semis, drawing Bologna 1-1 and losing in PKs. In all comps they’ve only lost 1 game in regulation in 6 (Liverpool).

This is a matchup Inter usually wins. The past matchups have been 2-0, 2-0, 4-0, 4-0, 2-1, 3-2, 1-0, and 3-2, all wins for Inter (8). They’ve not lost to Atalanta in 15 meetings since 2018.

That type of dominance should mean Inter is the bet. Atalanta has improved so maybe BTTS or simply Over 1.5 can be options. Both teams have seen 2+ goals in 13/15 Serie A games.
