Morocco vs Tanzania Preview
Morocco (Atlas Lions)
11th in FIFA Rankings.
They opened AFCON with a 2-0 win over Comoros, though it was 0-0 until Diaz and El Kaabi scored in the 55′ and 74′ minutes.
On MD2, they drew Mali 1-1, with both goals coming from PKs, first Diaz for Morocco in first-half stoppage time, then Sinayoko for Mali in the 64′. Morocco led in shots on target 5-1.
They finished with Group Stage with a straightforward win over Zambia winning 3-0. El Kaabi and Diaz scored in the first half and El Kaabi added a second in the second half. They pummelled Zambia with 18 shots and 8 on target, to just 4/0 for the Copper Bullets. In other news, they got a boost when captain Hakimi returned from injury as a second-half sub. Diaz and El Kaabi are 2/3 players in AFCON with 3 goals, while Diaz has 6 shots on target, tied for the 2nd-most.
Morocco are now undefeated in 20 overall matches, with just 4 of those games ended drawn in regulation. In 19/20 and 32/34 games they’ve scored. They’ve also kept clean sheets in 12/15.
Tanzania (Taifa Stars)
112th in FIFA Rankings.
Their first AFCON match saw them score, and was higher-scoring, but ended in defeat losing to Nigeria 2-1. They did push Nigeria, being tied 1-1 in the second half but conceded the winner just 2 minutes after equalizing.
On MD2 they took the lead through a Msuva PK, but saw Uganda tie it in the 80′ for a 1-1 draw. A stoppage time PK save, rescued a point in that game.
MD3 saw another 1-1 scoreline vs Tunisia. Tunisia opened the scoring with a PK in the 43′, only to see Tanzania tied it moments later in the 48′ from Salum.
Last month they had a wild 4-3 loss to Kuwait in a friendly, but this team usually plays in low-scoring games with the Under 2.5 being 7-2. They’re also winless in their last 9 games.
This is their first trip to the knockouts at AFCON despite not winning any games in the Group Stage.
Morocco vs Tanzania Head-to-Head
Tanzania has only won 1/8 all-time meetings and that was back in 2013. Morocco has won the other 7, each of the past 5 and both matches in 2025 by 1-0 and 2-0 scores. Other recent games in 2024 and 2023 were 3-0 and 2-0.
AFCON Prediction
Tanzania had some of the fewest shots on target in the Group Stage with 6—only 4 teams had fewer. That’s hard to envision changing vs the hosts. Morocco allowed the fewest shots on target against with just 3, while Tanzania gave up the 4th-most. Versus Morocco’s attack that generated the most shots (50), 3rd-most shots on target (20) and 4th-most goals (6), it should be a win for the Atlas Lions.
For players props, given they each have 3 goals and Diaz has scored in all 3 games, El Kaabi (-125) or Diaz (+160) to score are good bets all on their own.
- AFCON Picks: Morocco to win, score over 1.5, match goals under 4.5, Diaz 1+ shot on target (+110)
