Man City vs Al Hilal Head-to-Head
This is their first-ever meeting.
Manchester City Preview
Man City scored early with Foden striking in the 2′ minute and Doku adding another before the half but that was all they could muster against Morocco’s Wydad AC in a 2-0 win.
In Game 2 it was all City. Pep rotated from Game 1, Haaland came back into the starting lineup, scored a PK goal, Gundogan scored twice and Echeverri, Bobb, and Cherki all found the scoresheet in a 6-0 romp of Al Ain.
That set up a big clash on Matchday 3 with Juventus who had also won both of their games and it was all City from start to finish. They opened the scoring 9 minutes in, Juve tied it 2 minutes later, but an own goal made it 2-0 at the 26′ minute mark. 3 second half goals made it 5-1 before Juve got a late second goal to make it 5-2. That put City atop Group G.
It was a hugely disappointing season for Pep Guardiola and Man City who fell behind in the title race and never got back in. They were 3 back of 2nd Arsenal and 13 back of 1st Liverpool.
Despite a down season for Man City, they’ve lost only 1/16 coming into this match.

Al Hilal Preview
The Saudis put up a good account of themselves holding the 2024 Champions League winners Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw, though almost gave up the point conceding a penalty that was missed by Madrid in stoppage time. They were outshot 19-13 and 7-2 on target.
Versus Salzburg they had plenty of chances and should have scored on one of their 19 shots attempts but they could not capitalize and only had 4 shots on target. Salzburg actually had more with 6 and had some chances to steal the win.
Into Matchday 3 knowing they needed to win for any chance of advancing, and they got it vs Pachuca winning 2-0, but it was jus 1-0 until the 95′ minute. They could only muster 3 shots on target and were outshot in attempts 13-8. But the win got them 2nd in Group H behind Madrid and into the Round of 16.
Al Hilal came up just short in the Saudi Pro League by 8 points in the title race losing out to Al-Ittihad, with 75 points compared to 83. They were dominant offensively putting up 95 goals, 15 more than the next highest scorers Al-Nassr.
They now have only 1 loss in 13 games and are undefeated in 8 outscoring opponents 19-8.
In the CWC their stats leaders are Neves, Leonardo and Al-Dawsari all with 1 goal each.

Man City vs Al Hilal Prediction
To me Al Hilal, for all their scoring in the Saudi Pro League, have been disappointing. They were outshot in shots on target vs Madrid and Salzburg and only put more on frame vs the already-eliminated Pachuca and the Mexicans still managed several more attempts.
Do something similar vs the high-flying Man City and it could be hard to keep pace.
Man City has been dominant in the group stage. With 68, 74 and 77% possession and a combined 60-22 edge in shot attempts and 22-5 edge in shots on target. Of those, Haaland has 7, good for 2nd overall in shots on target. Foden is also in the top 10 with 5.
Al Hilal has only allowed 1 goal, but has only scored 3, while City has filled the net with 13 while only allowing 2 and leading for 89% of the tournament. It’s hard to bet against City here. Al Hilal also lost captain Al-Dawsari to injury last game and have already been without top scorer Mitrovic.
- FIFA Club World Cup Picks: Man City to win / score over 1.5 and Haaland 1+ shot on target (-163)
