LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders Preview
With LAFC opening the scoring in the 50’ minute and at home last round, it looked like the LA dominance over Seattle would continue. But an own goal in the 59’ would see things end squared at 1-1. In the second half of stoppage time, Jordan Morris in the 109’ minute would ensure Seattle didn’t lose 5 straight this season to LAFC and booked Seattle’s spot in the Conference Finals. LAFC piled up 27 shot attempts but the Sounders’ defense, like it’s done all season stood firm.
The Galaxy hosted Minnesota last round and it was another route with LA putting up 6 goals in a 6-2 win. Each of Pec, Jovelic and Paintfil scored twice, LA led in possession 73%, shots 17-12 and shots on target 10-6. Pec has been scorching hot and is a great scoring prop considering he’s now scored in 7/8 recent games as well as 10/13.
And this was against a Minnesota team that had only allowed 2 goals in their previous 7 games. The Loons 2 goals both came from Kelvin Yeboah who scored early in the 6’ minute and then again with a PK in 1st half stoppage time.
The Galaxy had previously run wild over Coloraod in Round One winning 5-0 and 4-1 so have now scored 15 goals in 3 gaes.
In stark contrast, Seattle saw both games with Houston go to PKs tied 0-0 and 1-1, which they went on to win both.
LA Galaxy vs Seattle Head-to-Head
These teams were an even 1-1-1 this season. LA won 1-0 in LA in MLS, then they drew 0-0 in Seattle in MLS, before Seattle won 3-1 in Seattle in the Leagues Cup.
LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders Picks
LA rarely draws, they have 1 draw in the Leagues Cup across their past 26 games.
They rarely lose too with just 7 losses in that time and also 7 losses further back over 30 games. They also rarely lose at home where they were 13-3-1 at home in the regular season.
LA has won 9 straight at home now, and have scored multiple goals in all 9. In all home MLS games this season they scored multiple times in 16/19. Home or away LA has scored multiple times in 8/9 recent games.
Riqui Puig is at the center of everything for this offense and only 1 time all season did he not have at least 1 shot attempt. Unfortunately, the 2nd time came last week where he had 0 attempts or shots on target as we had predicted him to get a couple.
All season, he’s had multiple shot attempts in 9/10 recent games (44) and multiple in 30/36 games. Despite having not shots, he did record an assist last week, extending a run that has seen him score or assist in 14 straight home games. He had scored twice in both games versus the Rapids.
Seattle also comes in hot, now undefeated in 10 games. All Seattle games are close. The Under 2.5 is 9-3 of late. They’ve only allowed 5 goals in 10 games and while they’ve scored in 8/10, they’ve only scored more than 1 goal once in 7 games. Defensively, Seattle has allowed more than 1 goal just once in 12 games though.
So, so have 2 completely contrasting styles here with the free-flowing high-scoring Galaxy and the shut-down, grind-it-out style of Seattle.
LA may concede, they’ve done so in 9/10 and in 17/19. But at home, you’d expect their explosive offense to have too much for Seattle. The Orlando City vs New York Red Bulls prediction options I see as likely for this match include:
- LA win (-120)
- LA adv + Pec over 1.5 shots and over 0.5 shots on target
- BTTS & O2.5 (-105)
- LA over 1.5 (-138)
For the best LA vs Seattle picks, let’s settle on the Galaxy to advance and some Gabriel Pec props.
We could go further back, but Pec last finished with 0 shot attempts or shots on target back on July 24 where he only subbed for 24 minutes. Since that time he’s had multiple shots attempts in 14 straight games and at least 1 shot on target as well. In the past 11 games he’s averaged 5.18 attempts and 2.66 shots on target.
- LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders Prediction: LA to advance + Pec over 1.5 shots and over 0.5 shots on target (-120)
