Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Diamonds Head-to-Head
This is the first meeting between the teams.
Inter Milan Preview
Inter played out a hard-fought draw with Mexico’s Monterrey on Matchday 1. It was the Mexicans who struck first through defender Sergio Ramos in the 25′ minute, but Inter’s talisman Lautaro Martinez drew them level in the 42′. That was all the scoring though in a 1-1 draw that saw Inter lead in shots 15-11, but only 2-1 in shots on target.
At one point Inter looked like they could win multiple trophies during the European season but one by one they fell out contention losing in the Coppa Italia Final to AC Milan, falling just short of the Serie A title by 1 point to Napoli on the final weekend of the season and then getting blown out of the Champions League Final to PSG by an embarrassing 5-0 scoreline.
So while a 24-9-5 league season is not bad, spirits can’t be too high around the Inter camp. Inter also gave up goals in 13 of their final 16 games and that trend continued in this competition, now conceding in 14/17 and having only won 1/4.
That will be a task for new head coach Cristian Chivu to change. After the departure of Simone Inzaghi for Al-Hilal, Parma’s coach of just 13 games, has been given the reigns. Chivu has played for Inter as a defender and coached in the youth levels.
Inter is slightly handcuffed with several missing or doubtful players like Marcus Thuram, Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, Hakan Calhanoglu, Denzel Dumfries and Yann Bisseck.
Urawa Red Diamonds Preview
Japan’s Urawa went down early to River Plate conceding in the 12′ minute before also falling behind 2-0 and then cutting the lead to 2-1 with a 58′ minute penalty from Yusuke Matsup. River added a third in the 73′ to seal a 3-1 win. River Plate had 59% possession and led in shots 13-9, but Urawa actually had more shots on target at 6-5.
This is one of Japan’s top sides having won three AFC Champions League titles, while also claiming a joint-record eight Emperor’s Cups.
The Reds find themselves 4th in the Japan J1 League at 9-7-5, scoring 26 and allowing 20. With 34 points, they’re only 3 back of 2nd, but 7 back of 1st-placed Kashima Antlers. They’ve been much more of an Under team, going 13-8 to Under 2.5 totals. Ryoma Watanabe leads the Reds with 6G/1A in league play.
Recently, Urawa’s form has taken a dip tough. While they won their last game 2-1, that’s just their 2nd win in 7 games and their only win in their last 4. And while they have been more of an Under team as mentioned, the BTTS is on a 6-1 run and the BTTS & Over 2.5 is 5-1 after their loss to River Plate. It’s not also just 1 win in 5 overall matches and only 2 in 8.

Inter Milan vs Urawa Red Diamonds Prediction
Inter looked tired to end the European season and that was evident vs PSG in the UCL Final. Monterrey was always going to put up a fight, but Urawa will be a step down. Inter are missing many pieces but should have enough to get the win, but I wouldn’t bet it to be by a lot. The best value could come from Urawa getting on the scoresheets, as BTTS alone is +110 odds as Inter has been conceding in most games.
I like either Inter to win by 2 or more (-148) or for Inter to win, score 2+ and for Martinez to get on the scoresheet at +105.
