Inter Milan vs River Plate Head-to-Head
This is their first-ever meeting.
Inter Milan Preview
Inter played out a hard-fought draw with Mexico’s Monterrey on Matchday 1. It was the Mexicans who struck first through defender Sergio Ramos in the 25′ minute, but Inter’s talisman Lautaro Martinez drew them level in the 42′. That was all the scoring though in a 1-1 draw that saw Inter lead in shots 15-11, but only 2-1 in shots on target.
On Matchday 2, Inter fell behind early to Urawa Reds 1-0 in the 11′ minute and couldn’t find the equalizer until the 78′, before just narrowly getting the win in the 92′ minute with goals from Martinez and Carboni. Inter had 82% possession, and led in shots 26-5, but only 4-3 in shots on target.
At one point Inter looked like they could win multiple trophies during the European season but one by one they fell out contention losing in the Coppa Italia Final to AC Milan, falling just short of the Serie A title by 1 point to Napoli on the final weekend of the season and then getting blown out of the Champions League Final to PSG by an embarrassing 5-0 scoreline.
Inter also gave up goals in 13 of their final 16 games and that trend continued in this competition, now conceding in 15/18 and having only won 2 of their past 5. Their only clean sheet in 5 games was vs Como who played half the game down a man in league play.
Inter is slightly handcuffed with several missing or doubtful players like Marcus Thuram, Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, Hakan Calhanoglu, Denzel Dumfries, Fratessi and Yann Bisseck.
However, it’s possible, Dumfries, Calhanoglu and Frattesi could be ready to go.

River Plate Preview
In Game 1, River Plate saw goals in the in the 12′, 48′ and 73′ minutes from Facundo Colidio, Sebastian Driussi and Maximiliano Meza and went on to beat Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 only conceding a second half penalty. They led in possession at 59% and shots 13-9, but Urawa had more shots on target at 6-5. It wasn’t all positive though as Driussi suffered an ankle injury and midfielder Enzo Perez also went off at half.
In Game 2, they outshot Monterrey 18-3 and 6-2 in shots on target despite conceding 60% possession and came away with a 0-0 draw. In a game filled with fouls, River will have to deal with an entire midfield of suspended players on Matchday 3 in Kevin Castano, Enzo Perez and Giuliano Galoppo.
River Plate are technically in the off-season before the Clausura kicks offs next month.
Last season in the Apertura they were 2nd in Group B at 8-7-1, scoring 21 goals and allowing 9. That put them 4 points back of first place Rosario Central. They reached the quarterfinals, but went in PKs. Considering they lost in PKs, they’re currently undefeated in regulation since March 1, a run of 18 games after winning at the CWC.
In the Libertadores, they topped Group B at 3-3-0 scoring 13 and allowing 7 in those 6 games setting up a trip to the Round of 16.
River only has 1 clean sheet in 10 games now, coming last game versus Monterrey, but have scored 0, 3, 1, 1, 6, 3, 3, 4, 2, 2 and 3 in those games. Naturally, the BTTS ‘had’ been a good bet now at 8-2.

Inter Milan vs River Plate Prediction
A draw may be good enough for both to advance giving both 5 points. But a Monterrey win over Urawa would leave them with 5 points too and depending on a host of tiebreakers anyth\
ing could still happen. Inter has looked tired to end the season and just barely beat Urawa. Meanwhile River are missing tons of players from last game and also struggled to finish their chances versus Monterrey. This should be tight.
- FIFA Club World Cup Picks: Under 2.5 (-125) at Bet365 OR Under 3.5 + Martinez 1+ shot on target (-115). Martinez has scored in both CWC games and has 1+ shot on target in 12/15.
