Uruguay started the semifinal strong, but Rodrigo Bentancur was forced out with an injury early and after that Colombia grew into the game.
With the first half winding down, James Rodriguez landed a ball perfectly on the head of Jefferson Lerma from a corner kick who headed it past Sergio Rochet in the 39’ minute.
But just as the momentum kept going in Colombia’s favor Daniel Munoz takes a second yellow for an elbow to the face and is sent off in stoppage time meaning Colombia had to defend and hold on all second half.
Marcelo Biesla brought on Luis Suarez and he hits the post in the 71’ minute but it was Colombia that had some more dangerous chances to extend the lead with near misses wide and off the bar.
Giorgian de Arrascaeta had a shot tipped by the keeper and over the bar late in the game for another Uruguay near chance but it wasn’t their night.

After the game players got involved with some fights, and Uruguayan players including Darwin Nunez were involved in fights with fans in the family section of the crowd which is very likely to lead to suspensions after investigations happen.

Canada vs Uruguay Head-to-Head
The only ever meeting between these teams was a 2022 friendly won 2-0 by Uruguay.
Canada vs Uruguay Prediction
This is a tough game to handicap. Both will be disappointed to not be in the final. Uruguay more than Canada though.
It will be much harder for Uruguay to get up for a 3rd Place Game. But, it’s a chance to go out on a high, and they’re obviously the better team than Canada. A defeat would likely not be acceptable for Uruguyuan fans. La Celeste have won 9/15 all-time 3rd Place Games, but then have also lost 3 of their past 4.
Making it this far is already a huge accomplishment for Canada. A 3rd place showing at a major tournament would be a crowning achievement.
But it depends on how manager Jesse Marsch goes about it. He’s openly stated he’ll be rotating the lineup to give everyone a chance and ran training with all the subs from the last game this week.
Alphonso Davies left injured last game and while it’s not serious, he could certainly be among the players rested.
Meanwhile, Uruguay has had 1 day less rest and will be out Ronald Araujo and Rodrigo Bentancur to injury and Guillermo Varela and Nicolas de la Cruz to regular suspensions. Surely Nunez will be joining them.
I think there is a lot of question marks here. Uruguay will be expected to win but that won’t pay much in the Canada vs Uruguay odds.
You could try Uruguay to win and score 2 or to win by 2 or to win and Canada to score for better odds.
Let’s just back the scrappy Canadians to at least get on the scoresheet and bet BTTS in the Canada vs Uruguay prediction.
