Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey Head-to-Head
This is their first-ever meeting. It’s also the first meeting for both with a team from either respectively country.
Dortmund Preview
Despite being favored to win against Brazil’s Fluminense, Dortmund struggled and ended drawn 0-0 on Matchday 1. They had 55% possession but where outshot 14-7 in attempts and 5-3 in shots on target.
On Matchday 2, Bellingham scored his first goal with the team. Nmecha, Guirassy and and own goal saw Dortmund score 4 times vs Mamelodi and take a commanding 4-1 lead, only to be made to hang on with a 4-3 win.
Then in Game 3 despite having 60% possession and the shots edge 28-3 and 11-3, only a 36′ minute Svennson goal stood up as the winner in a 1-0 game.
Dortmund was scorching hot down the stretch in the Bundesliga and in the final days reached 4th overall. That claimed them the final Champions League spot.
Serhou Guirassy had a stellar season scoring 21 goals to go with 5 assists, putting him second in the scoring race, 5 behind Harry Kane. He was held silent vs Fluminense with 0 shot attempts but was back on the scoresheet versus Mamelodi.
Dortmund is now undefeated in 10 at 8-2-0. They’ve played to a ton of Overs, being 10-2 to Over 2.5 totals in all comps of late.
Guirassy was kept quite vs Fluminense but had 4/3 and 7/4 shots/on target in his last 2 games and has 1+ shot on target in 10/12.

Monterrey Preview
Monterrey got on the scoresheet early vs Inter in Game 1 with Sergio Ramos scoring in the 25′ minute, but Lautaro Martinez levelled soon after in the 42′ and they drew 1-1. There were very few scoring chances with Inter leading in shots on target by just a 2-1 margin.
In Game 2 versus River Plate, Monterrey gave up 18 shot attempts and 6 on target while only having 3/2 of their own, but River failed to convert and the game ended 0-0.
On Matchday 3, Monterrey needed a result and they got it, routing Urawa 4-0 with goals from Deossa, Corona and a brace from Berterame.
Monterrey is technically in the offseason awaiting the start of the Apertura in Mexico. Their last game before the CWC was a 2-1 loss to eventual champions Toluca in the quarterfinals.
Los Rayados were 7th in the Apertura at 8-4-5 scoring 32 and allowing 23.
Other tournament play saw them exit to Vancouver in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in the Round of 16.
Scoring hasn’t been an issue having scored in 16/17 games now.

Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey Prediction
Dortmund had a 7-goal thriller with Mamelodi, but otherwise their other 2 games saw just 1 total goal. But the Fluminense game is the only game in 10 where they’ve not scored.
Monterrey may be underdogs but they’ve gone toe-to-toe with some bigger clubs in Inter Milan and River Plate, both draws and low-scoring 1-1 and 0-0. They’re only high-scoring game was versus Urawa (4-0).
I can see an Under, the Draw and perhaps a 1-1.
