Let’s get into this week’s Europa League predictions, picks and parlays taking place on Thursday’ December 12.
Europa League Picks and Parlays #1
Malmo vs Galatasaray Prediction
30th Malmo are 1-0-4 and have been outscored 10-4 in the tournament. They did though coast to a Swedish league title this season, their 4th win in 5 seasons.
Galatasaray comes in favored, 4th overall at 4-1-0.
This Gala team has quickly become one of my favorites to bet. They rarely lose and rarely don’t score, while often conceding too. They’ve been a great Over and/or BTTS team. Their UEL scores have been 3-1, 2-2, 4-3, 3-2, and 1-1.
On one hand, their 13 goals for are tied for the most, but the 9 goals allowed are the most of any team inside the top 21.
This has not been a good tournament this year or recently for Malmo. A 2-1 win over Qarabag is their only UEL win in 11. They’ve already struggled versus teams weaker than Gala, losing to Rangers, Olympiakos, Ferencvaors and another Turkish opponent in Besiktas who has been out of form.
Gala had drawn 2 in a row, but just beat Sivasspor 3-2 this weekend and have extended their undefeated streak in all comps to 17 where they’ve also scored in all 17. In all 22 games this season they’ve scored in 21, but … they’ve allowed a goal in 7/8 and 12/15 recent games.
This should be a Gala win, a BTTS or certainly Gala to score. For goalscoring props, Victor Osimhen is always a good option and has 3 goals in his last 2 UEL games. Shot-wise, he has 25 attempts and 12 (2, 2, 5 and 3) on target. He scored this weekend, and with Icardi and now Yilmaz also injured, he’ll surely get his chances.
- Europa League Predictions: Galatasaray to Score + Osimhen Over 1+ Shot on Target
Ajax vs Lazio Prediction
Lazio sits top of the pack in 1st at 4-1-0, one of five teams still yet to lose, and one of three teams with 13 points, but they own the best goal-difference, scoring 11 and allowing just 2.
Ajax aren’t far off, at 3-1-1, sitting 6th, and they actually have a better gaol-difference scoring 13 and allowing 3, making their +10 differential the best of all 36 teams.
Both teams slipped up last round. Lazio had scored multiple goals in their fist 4 games before shockingly drawing 0-0 with Lodugorets. A 3-1 loss to Parma followed, but they seem to be back on track after back-to-back wins over Napoli 3-1 and 1-0 in the Coppa Italia and Serie A. The Ludogorets game is just the 2nd time in any competition they’ve failed to score.
Ajax suffered their first loss of the tournament losing 2-0 to Sociedad. Since, they won 2-1, drew 2-2 and lost 2-1 in the Eredivisie. They too have scored in nearly every game, every game, except the Sociedad loss across all comps.
- Europa League Predictions: Both Teams to Score
- Parlay Picks: GAL to score + Osimhen 1+ shot on target / AJA vs LAZ btts (+104)
Europa League Picks and Parlays #2
Viktoria Plzen vs Manchester United Prediction
These two have had nearly, and as close to identical Eurapa campaigns so far. Both are 2-3-0 with 9 points, with Man U seeded just above Plzen in 12th, vs 13th, based off a slightly better goal-differential. Man U has scored 10 and allowed 7, while Plzen has scored 9 and allowed 7.
Both also drew their first 3 Europa League games before winning their past 2.
The BTTS has hit in 4/5 Man U games, minus a 2-0 win.
The BTTS has hit in 4/5 Plzen games, minus a 0-0 draw.
Overall, the Over 1.5 combined between them has gone 9-1.
Man U is a very predictably unpredictable side and do have the Manchester Derby ahead of them this weekend which could cause some distractions. I’ll just ask for 2 goals in this same in some way.
- Europa League Predictions: Over 1.5
Bodo/Glimt vs Besiktas Prediction
Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt host 5th place in the Turkish league Besiktas.
Neither have found a ton of success in the UEL, with Bodo 17th at 2-1-2 and Besiktas 22nd at 2-0-3.
Bodo lost their past 2 in the tournament 2-1 and 3-2 but went toe-to-toe with Man U in that last loss and could’ve taken points.
Besiktas lost 2, won 2 and then were upset at home 3-1 to Israeli side Maccabi Tel-Aviv last round.
Besiktas won 1-0 in the league this weekend but that’s their only win in 5 and just 2nd win in 8. They rarely fail to score though with goals in 20/22 overall matches this season.
Bodo slumped to the finish line in lifting their domestic title and in all comps have just 3 wins in 10. They clinched the title in beating Lillestrom 5-2 in their last game and have been off since December 1.
Could they be tired and rusty from celebrating? Maybe. They too rarely don’t score with goals in 8 straight and 40/44 overall games this season. The frozen plastic pitch in Norway at the Aspmyra Stadion is always an advantage too. They last failed to score at home last December a year ago and have only lost 2/18 recent home games.
You would expect goals in this matchup and there were last year when they met in the Conference League Group Stage with Bodo winning both games 3-1 and 2-1.
- Europa League Predictions: Both Teams to Score
Porto vs Midtjylland Prediction
Porto has only won 1/5 UEL games and are 23rd, but they’ve kept things interesting with scores of 3-2 (L), 3-3, 2-0 (W), 2-1 (L) and 2-2.
Midtjylland are only slightly better at 2-1-2 and 20th, but their games have been all tight, scoring just 5 times and also conceding just 5 times.
Both are fighting near the top of their respective leagues, Midtjylland, tied in 1st (2nd seed) in Denmark, and Porto tied in 2nd (3rd seed) and 2 points back of 1st in Portugal.
Porto have scored in all but 1 game in all comps this season but come into this week in poor form with only 1 win in 6, and giving up multiple goals in 4/6. The 3 losses in this time though have all been on the road. Games at the Estadio do Dragao have been a fortress for Porto where they have 1 loss in 29 home games.
Midtjylland have also struggled in recent weeks with only 2 wins 7, and only in their last game, a 3-0 win over Vejle, have they scored more than 1 goal, while being shut out 3 times in that stretch.
I expect a Porto win and they heavily favored but defense in this tournament hasn’t been great. Look at all 22 games Porto have played this season, and there is one 100% trend. The Over 1.5 is 22-0.
- Europa League Predictions: Over 1.5
- Parlay Picks: VP vs MNU over 1.5 / BG vs BES btts / POR vs MID over 1.5 (+116)
Lyon vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction
It’s a top 7 matchup between 7th Lyon 3-1-1 and 3rd Frankfurt 4-1-0.
Lyon have scored the 2nd-most goals in the tournament, while Frankfurt are 1/5 teams still yet to lose.
Both have only conceded 5 times.
Only a 1-0 loss to Besiktas stands as the 1 UEL game where Lyon didn’t score multiple goals, but they have only won 1/3 of their past UEL games.
Frankfurt drew 3-3 on Matchday 1 and then went on to win 3-1, 1-0, 1-0, and 2-1.
Look at all comps and Lyon has been cruising of late. They won 3-0 this weekend and are 9-4-1 going back to September, only failing to score once. They’re currently 5th in France.
Frankfurt are hot too, 2nd in Germany, with only 3 losses in all comps across 21 games, but their most recent games have been a 3-0 loss and 2-2 draw. That 3-0 loss to Leipzig in the Pokal last week is the only 2nd time in those 21 games where they have not scored.
