USA Preview
In 3 Group Stage games USA won 3-0 (Zambia), 4-1 (Germany) and 2-1 (Australia). Against Australia they won 2-1, with Australia only scoring late on a PK.
In the quarterfinals, despite 75% and double digit shot attempts, USA created very few good chances vs Japan in the quarterfinals. In fact Japan, had their chances to pull the upset but couldn’t finish.
It would end 0-0 and go to extra-time where finally Trinity Rodman scored in the 107’ minute.
Their leading scorers have been:
- Mallory Swanson (3)
- Trinity Rodman (3)
- Sophia Smith (2)
- Lynn Williams (1)
- Korbert Albert (1)
Further back the US is undefeated in 13 at 12-1-0 outscoring opponents 28-7, which includes clean sheets in 8/13 and multiple goals scored in 9/13. They also only have 1 defeat in 19 and 2 defeats in 27 games.
Germany Preview
Germany started the Olympics with a 3-0 win over Australia, then fell 4-1 to USA before rebounding with a 4-1 win themselves over Zambia.
Germany met Canada in the quarters and the first half was all level at 0-0 and Canada saw Captain Jessie Fleming exit the game injured at half-time.
Despite both teams having plenty of chances the game remained 0-0 after regulation and both teams continued to come close to scoring in extra time but still we saw no goals.
So it was off to PKs where Germany won 4-2.
Germany has now won 9/11 outscoring opponents 27-13 in that time.
They have conceded in 7/10 so BTTS bets are 7-3.
The Over 2.5 has gone 9-1 in recent Germany games, with last game ending a streak of 9 straight.
In their past 17 games they have just 3 losses (USA, Iceland, France) and have scored in 14/17.
USA vs Germany Head-to-Head
These teams just met in the group stage on MD2 where USA ran away with a 4-1 win.
Stats
- Poss: 54% USA
- Shots: 12-10 GER
- On Target: 7-6 USA
Goals from Smith (2), Rodman and Williams. It was 1-0 USA, 1-1, then 2,3 and 4-1.
USA vs Germany Prediction
Germany may have defeated Canada and they certainly had chances but Canada outshot them 22-13 and 5-1 in shots on target.
When you lose 4-1 to an opponent a few days earlier, lots has to change for a better result. It’s not to bet on another USA win here.
- Women’s Olympic Soccer Prediction: USA win (+100)
Brazil vs Spain Prediction
3pm EST on Tuesday, August 6.
Brazil vs Spain Odds
- BRA +475
- DRAW +290
- SPA -175
- BRA to adv +250
- SPA to adv -350
- Over 2.5 -106
- Under 2.5 -118
- BTTS Yes +100
- BTTS No -138
Brazil Preview
In the group stage Brazil beat Nigeria 1-0, then lost to Japan 2-1 giving up 2 late goals, lost to Spain 2-0 but played a player down (Marta) half the game and then upset France 1-0 in the quarterfinals.
Playing without the suspended Marta, Brazil met France in the quarters and that game stayed level all the way until the 82’ minute when Gabi Portilho got the winner.
It was 1 of only 2 shots on target for Brazil in the game. But they did only allow France to register 3 on target themselves.
Marta will return for the semis here against Spain.
Brazil are 11-0-4 in their last 15 and have scored in all but 2 of those games, this tournament vs Spain and another vs USA (1-0) further back.
Spain Preview
Spain’s path to the semis saw them beat Japan 2-1, Nigeria 1-0 and Brazil 2-1 in the group stage.
In the quarterfinals, Colombia jumped out to a surprising 2-0 lead with a goal in the 12’ and 52’ minutes.
Spain would claw back with goals from Jenni Hermosa and Irene Parades in the 79’ and then deep into stoppage time in the 97’.
They kept pushing to try and win it within the 15 minutes of stoppage time but it ended 2-2. Extra-time would solve nothing so it was off to PKs where Spain won 4-2 with Colombia missing 2 shots.
Overall Spain had 33 attempts and 7 shots on target, with 77% possession, but Colombia still put 6 of their 7 shots on target, 2 for goals.
In 2024 Spain is now 11-0-1 outscoring opponents 30-7 in all comps. Go further back and they’ve lost just 4 times in 39 games being 34-1-4.
In their last 15 games, they’ve scored multiple goals in 13 of them and won by multiple goals in 9/15.
Brazil vs Spain Head-to-Head
This is a rematch of MD13 in the group stage we just sae on July 31.
The stats are all in Spain’s favor at 83% possession, 28-6 shots and 10-3 in shots on target. Plus the final score of 2-0.
But it’s also important to note that Marta was sent off with a straight red at the end of the 1st half. And that Spain’s goals came later on in the 68’ (Athenea del Castillo) and really late on in 107’ (Alexia Putellas).
Brazil vs Spain Prediction
Spain have been consistently winning but they’ve needed to work for it. Of their 7 goals scored they’re mostly all coming late in the 22′, 74′, 85′, 68′, 107′, 79′ and 97′ minutes.
So bets on Spain to score in the 2nd half or 2nd half to be higher scoring than the 1st half could be other ways to bet this game. But even that oddsmakers have caught onto. Spain to score in the 2nd half is priced at -225.
Options
- Spain to advance + Under 3 goals (+140)
- Spain to advance + Under 4 goals (-150)
- Up that to (-120) for Spain with most shots on target or (-138) for most shots
This should be tight. It was only 1-0 until late in the last meeting and Spain played half the game up a player. So let’s bet Spain to simply qualify where they get the most shot attempts (Brazil only has a combined 14 shots on target in 4 games) and the game being low-scoring.
- Women’s Olympic Soccer Predictions: Spain to qualify + most shots + game total under 4 (-138)
