In England vs Switzerland the first half had its’ moments, and a slightly more attacking version of England showed up but the half still ended 0-0. England led in attempts 5-1 but neither team registered a shot on target.
Harry Kane had only 9 touches all half as well.
It was only the second time in the past 69 Knockout Round games that there have been 0 shots on target at half for either team.
Second half, Swiss are much improved and control the play and pass the ball into the England box which takes a slight deflection and lands for Breel Embolo to tip in for the lead in the 75’ minute.
But Bukayo Saka responds for England quickly blasts home a shot from top of the box to the bottom right corner and off the post minutes later after 3 subs were made for England and England ties in the 80’ minute.

Netherlands vs England Head-to-Head
Since 2002 this matchup has rarely gone England’s way, but here’s been a lot of draws too. The Dutch are 4-4-1 in the past 9 and have only lost 1 of the past 11.
The Netherlands have actually won 3/4 including the last meeting in the 2019 Nation’s League 3-1 in ET, tied 1-1 at the end of regulation though.
Netherlands Stats
- Just 3 losses in 15
- Kept clean sheets in 8/12
- Over 2.5 is 9-1 (only not cashing vs France)
- Over 1.5 is 20-3
- OVer 2.5 this tournament is 4-1
- The shut out vs France is only time they’ve not scored in 18 games and 2nd time in 39 games
England Stats
- Under 2.5 is 6-0 in recent games
- They have scored 4 regulation goals in the last 6 games
- But only allowed 4 goals in last 7 games
- Further back their record is 15-7-3
Netherlands vs England Prediction
England is getting by but ugly and barely, it is only 3 losses in 25 but this current team is just scraping by, by the slimmest of margins, being seconds away from going out to Slovakia and minutes away from going out to Switzerland.
I have a similar thought process on this game as I did last where I said the best bet was Switzerland double chance plus some sort of Under play. Or betting on Switzerland to advance since they offered better value.
Or a draw, or first-half draw.
The first bet won. The overall winner did not, but Switzerland could’ve won and probably should’ve in my opinion.
The odds favor England again here versus the Dutch but it’s on name and on the “star” power in their lineup. But those stars haven’t shown up. This again looks much like a coin flip 50/50 game where you get a better price on the Dutch.
Are Netherlands the same or better than Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia and Switzerland. Yes. Do they arguably have the best attackers England will have seen so far? Probably.
Will Gareth Southgate change his tactics? Unlikely. Can England win? Or course they can. But they’ve shown nothing to think betting on them is a good use of your money.
The Dutch have had some problems with teams that attack more like Austria and Turkey, but England doesn’t take that approach. All of England’;’s games have been Unders. Most of the Netherlands’ games have been Overs.
So the betting options I see are:
Netherlands double chance + Under 3 (+105)
Netherlands double chance + Under 4 (-138)
Or
Netherlands to Advance (+110)
- Netherlands vs England Prediction: Netherlands double chance + Under 4 (-138)
