Atleti bounced back after a Matchday 1 loss to PSG and beat the Seattle Sounders on Matchday 2 by a 3-1 score. Botafogo served up the biggest shock of the tournament taking down the European Champions, PSG 1-0 on Matchday 1 with Igor Jesus’ 36′ minute goal being the only goal. It was all defending in a low-bloxk from there as PSG had 75% possession, led in shots 16-4 and corners 10-1 but could not break down the 2024 South American champions. In fact, Botafogo led in shots on target 4-2.
On Matchday 1, Botafogo jumped out to a 2-0 lead at half over Seattle but were left to hold on, winning 2-1. Seattle had 60% possession, an led in shot attempts 23-12. But Botafogo led in shots on target 6-5 and Seattle’s lone goal was a deflection.
Botafogo sits 8th in the Brazilian Serie A at 5-3-3, scoring 14 and allowing just 7. Last year they were league champions.
