Juventus cruised on Matchday 1 easily swatting aside Abu Dhabi’s Al Ain by a 5-0 score, leaving them 1st in Group G. Juve jumped out to a quick lead being up 3-0 just 31 minutes in and 4-0 at the half. Both Kolo Muani and Conceicao had a brace and Yildiz had another. Juve had 64% possession and led in shots 16-9 and shots on target 7-5.
This wasn’t a season to get too excited about Juventus. They finished 4th in the UCL but just barely, with 70 points and 5th Roma right behind with 69. Those 70 points were also 12 back of 1st place Napoli and the reason is simple, too many draws. The most in Serie A. Juve finished 18-16-4 to be the draw kings. In fact, in all comps, they had 20 draws, tying a club record. Juve weren’t prolific scorers but they did keep 17 clean sheets.
In the Champions League they got knocked out in the League Phase Playoffs to PSV and in the Coppa Italia they were shocked in the quarterfinals to Empoli.
While Juventus only lost once in their final 9 games, they also only won 5 of their final 11.
Dusan Vlahovic is the main man up top scoring 10 and adding 4 assists. He only got 20 minutes versus Al Ain though. In 70 minutes, Kolo Muani had 3 shots, 3 on target and 2 goals. He’s had 1+ shot on target in 7/9 and as long as he sees a good amount of play time, that should continue.
WAC Casablanca Preview
Casablanca hung around with English giants Manchester City on Matchday 1, only losing 2-0. With Foden scoring for City just 2 minutes in and Doku adding another in the 42′ minute, it looked like it could get out of hand, but that was it for the scoring with City winning just 2-0. WAC were outshot 15-12 and 6-2 in shots on target and only had 32% possession though.
Wydad has a decent season in Morocco, but were well out of the title race. They finished 3rd and out of the the CAF Champions League spots reserved for the top 2. They were 14-12-4 scoring 45 and allowing 27 goals for 54 points. That was 3 back of 2nd and 16 back of 1st. So while they rarely lost, they simply had too many draws.
Overall though, they hold a record 22 titles in the Moroccan league.
Rayhi Mohamed was tied for first in league scoring with 11 goals, tied alongside 3 others.
Wydad’s season ended in early May on May 11. So they’ve been relatively inactive since, only playing in two friendlies, losing 1-0 to both Sevilla and Porto. They had finished their season undefeated at 5 though at 4-1-0. Their only loss in 2025 before the CWC came in the Throne Cup where they lost 1-0 in the Round of 16. So in 2025 in all comps they are now 9-6-2.
In the offseason, they’ve welcomed former Moroccan international and Hull player, Nordin Amrabat to the club. Thembinkosi Lorch created the most vs Man City though with 3 shots and 1 on target.
Juventus vs WAC Casablanca Prediction
Despite the big Matchday 1 win, Juve rarely beat most teams by heavy margins and Wydad did contain a more potent Man City attack. So long as he starts, I like Kolo Muani to be involved. If not, we can focus on his likely replacement Vlahovic instead to get a shot.
