Flamengo vs Chelsea Head-to-Head
This is the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Flamengo Preview
Flamengo got their their tournament started with a win over Tunisia’s Esperance, by a 2-0 score. They outshot the Tunisians 11-6 and 4-2 with shots on target while holding 69% of the possession. Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Luiz Araujo had the goals.
Flamengo sits top of the pile in Brazil’s Serie A and have been nearly perfect at 7-3-1, scoring 24 and allowing just 4 goals. That’s 7 more goals than any other side and 3 fewer conceded as well. They’ve not won the league title since 2020, but this the most goals they’ve ever scored through the opening 11 games since 2008.
They didn’t have it all their way in the Libertadores finishing 2nd in Group C at 3-2-1, scoring 6 and allowing 3. They’ll play Internacional in the Round of 16 in August.
Before that, they meet Atletico Mineiro in ther Round of 16 in the Copa de Brasil at the end of July.
Their 1 loss in the Libertadores back in May is their only defeat across all comps in 14 matches with only 2 total on the season. They’ve not lost any matches in their last 8 and have now won 2-0, 1-0, 5-0 and 2-0 in their last 4, while only failing to score once in 10 games.
Possibly the most impressive stat though is their defense that’s kept clean sheets in 7 straight, in 12/14 and in 13/18 overall matches.
If you’re targeting player props for Flamengo, their leading man is Uruguayan international #10 Giorgian De Arrascaeta. Coming into the CWC he had 9G/4A. With just 10 shots on target he has those 9 goals. In his Flamengo career he has over 300 appearances, 85 goals and 99 assists. The next leading scorer on the team is Pedro with 4G/2A.

Chelsea Preview
Chelsea also had a 2-0 Matchday 1 win, beating LAFC with goals from Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez in the 34′ and 79′ minutes. That does mean, that LAFC at least hung around for most of the game. The Blues led in possession with 66%, shots 17-7 and shots on target 6-4. Chelsea also debuted a new signing in Liam Delap from Ipswich who assisted on the second goal.
Chelsea finishing 4th and in the Champions League spots in England. Their final record was 20-9-9, scoring 64 and allowing 43. The Blues only had Conference League play in Europe and they cruised to the final where they easily brushed aside Real Betis of Spain 4-1. That made them the first teams to have won every UEFA trophy available (UCL, UEL, CL, and Super Cup), as the Conference League is relatively new. They’re now hunting to add a another CWC title too.
While earlier in the season Chelsea matches were wide-open, the scorelines tightened up as the season wore on and the Under 2.5 is now 5-1 in their recent games.
The Blues have 4 straight wins, only 1 loss in 10 and only 2 losses in 15 after beating LAFC.

Flamengo vs Chelsea Prediction
I wouldn’t underestimate Flamengo in this game as Brazil’s top team. It was only 1-0 Chelsea against LAFC until the later stages in that game, and Flamengo’s defense has been airtight all year.
