Seattle has had a decent start to MLS but have cooled off a bit with back-to-back losses of 3-2 and 3-0. The last one was a bit concerning considering Vancouver was playing with a host of backups and young call-ups. So it’s now 3 straight losses where they’ve given up 2, 3 and 3 goals against.
Still, they’re 6th in the West at 7-5-6, and have both scored and allowed 25 goals. That’s made them an even 9-9 to 2.5 totals.
Giving up 8 goals in 3 games is rare for the Sounders. Before their last 3 games they had clean sheets in 3/4 and had not given up more than 1 goal in 13 games. Scoring 2 vs Minnesota two games back is the only time in 6 games they’ve scored more than 1 themselves.
Atletico Madrid Preview
Atleti will also be looking to bounce back from a Matchday 1 loss, as they were blown away 4-0 to Champions League winners PSG. To make matters worse, Clement Lenglet took a red card late in the game. The Spanish side were dominated from start to finish being outshot 16-5 and 11-1 in shots on target, while only having 25% possession.
For a large part of the La Liga season, Atleti were in the title conversation but eventually fell off, finishing 22-10-6, scoring 68 goals, allowing only 30 and finishing 8 points back of Real Madrid for 2nd and 12 back of Barcelona for 1st.
Atleti’s Champions League aspirations went up in flames during the Round of 16, losing to Real Madrid and in some ways that sparked the end of their contention for the league title as well. They only won 1/5 overall matches after losing Leg 1 to Real.
They did end the year with wins in 3/4 and all big wins (4-0, 4-1, 4-0) while ending on a 4-1-1 run.

Seattle defense has been exposed lately and they’re never a team that scores many goals. Their 1 goal versus Botafogo was a deflection. Atletico may have been embarrassed versus PSG, but they are the European Champions and Seattle is a big step down.
One option is Atletico Madrid to win, score over 1.5 and match goals under 4.5 (-115).
