Chelsea vs LAFC Head-to-Head
This will be the first-ever matchup between the teams.
Chelsea Preview
While never seriously in the title race in England, Chelsea still had a solid campaign finishing 4th and in the Champions League spots. Their final record was 20-9-9, scoring 64 and allowing 43.
Given their poor showing the season prior, the Blues only had Conference League play in Europe and they cruised to the final where they easily brushed aside Real Betis of Spain 4-1. That made them the first teams to have won every UEFA trophy available (UCL, UEL, CL, and Super Cup), as the Conference League is relatively new.
Whle earlier in the season Chelsea matches were wide-open, the scorelines tightended up as the season wore on and the Under 2.5 was 4-1 in their finals games, while season-long in the EPL they were 21-17 to the Over.
The Blues finished with 3 straight wins, only 1 loss in 9 and only 2 losses in 14 so should be in great spirits heading into their kick-off match.
Chelsea has brought the full normal squad to the US, plus new signings of Mamadou Sarr, Liam Delap and Dario Essugo could make appearances.
LAFC Preview
LAFC come in sitting 5th in MLS’s Western Conference at 7-5-4, scoring 30 and allowing 23 goals.
They too will be high on confidence having not lost in 10 overall matches (5-5-0). That includes a huge 2-1 win over Club America to clinch the final qualification spot in this tournament, plus a cool $9.5 million in prize moeny. They followed that up with another win in the league, 3-1 over SKC.
Across all matches this season (17) LAFC have only lost 4 times and 0 since early April.
They’ve been filling the net with goals scoring multiple goals now in 10 straight games. Defense hasn’t been solid though as they’ve also given up at least a goal in 4 straight and in 10/12. In 5 of those games they’ve given up more than 1. Despite giving up a ton of goals lately, LAFC has only allowed the 3rd-fewest shots on target against in MLS.
When you’re betting LAFC player props you have to look at Denis Bouanga. He leads the team with 8G/4A. He’s taken the most shots of any player in MLS with 71, while being 2nd in shots on target with 30. Bouanga has goals in 5/6 and 8/10 games, at least 1 shot on target in 10 straight and in his last 3 games he’s gone 9/5, 8/2 and 8/2 in attempts/shots on target.

Chelsea vs LAFC Prediction
You simply have to assume Chelsea easily wins this. My only question for game and many games, featuring some of the top European teams is how much do they want this? If Chelsea goes deep into the Club World Cup, this will have to be treated like a World Cup year where key players get rested for the next month or so and miss the start of the EPL season. Is that worth winning this tournament for a team like the Blues who will want to challenge for the EPL title and UCL spots?
I’ll still expect Chelsea to win this one, but maybe it’s not a blowout. Here are some betting options:
Chelsea to win & over 2.5 (-143)
Chelsea to win & BTTS (+175)
Chelsea to win & Bouanga shot on target (+118)
- FIFA Club World Cup Picks: Chelsea to win & Bouanga shot on target (+118) at DraftKings
