Monterrey vs Inter Milan Head-to-Head
This is first-meeting between the teams unless you count a friendly over 30 years ago in Mexico.
Monterrey Preview
Monterrey is technically in the offseason awaiting the start of the Apertura, but off-seasons aren’t long and they last played May 10, still over a month ago. That game was a 2-1 loss to eventual champions Toluca in the quarterfinals.
Los Rayados were 7th in the Apertura at 8-4-5 scoring 32 and allowing 23.
Other tournament play saw them exit to Vancouver in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in the Round of 16.
Their form down the stretch was spotty at 6-1-5 in their last 12 games. Scoring hasn’t been an issue having scored in 12 straight games. In Sergio Canales and German Berterame, they have 2 players who accounted for most of their goals as they had 14G/8A and 13G respectively. La Liga fans will recognize captain Sergio Ramos who anchors the backline.
With no silverware to show of late, Martin Demichelis was shown the door and Domenec Torrent enters as the next head coach before the tournament.
Inter Milan Preview
At one point Inter looked like they could win multiple trophies on the season but one by one they fell out contention losing in the Coppa Italia Final to AC Milan, falling just short of the Serie A title by 1 point to Napoli on the final weekend of the season and then getting blown out of the Champions League Final to PSG by an embarrassing 5-0 scoreline.
So while a 24-9-5 league season is not bad, spirits can’t be too high around the Inter camp.
That will be a task for new head coach Cristian Chivu to change. After the departure of Simone Inzaghi for Al-Hilal, Parma’s coach of just 13 games, has been given the reigns. Chivu has played for Inter as a defender and coached in the youth levels.
Assuming they play, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez will be a potent attack up top. But several players are missing in Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic who have departed, Mehd Taremi who can’t leave Iran, and players doubtful with injury like Piotr Zielinski, Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries.

Monterrey vs Inter Milan Prediction
Both teams will be looking to make fresh starts under new coaches. While Inter is the better side, they could be tired and have several missing players. Inter gave up goals in 13 of their final 16 games so let’s bet on the BTTS at -120.
