Al Ahly Cairo vs Inter Miami Head-to-Head
Unsurprisingly, this is the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Al Ahly Cairo Preview
For those not familiar with Al Ahly, nicknamed the Red Devils, they are technically the world’s most successful soccer team, having piled up 155 trophies according to their official website. Al Ahly have won 45 of the all-time 66 Egyptian league titles to go with 12 CAF Champions League titles. They had the won the past 2 Champions Leagues, but failed to make the final for the first time since 2019 this year.
Al Ahly were 2nd in the Egyptian Premier League in the main phase going 11-6-0, and the only team to not lose a game. They scored 30 and allowed just 9 goals, which was the best defensive record in the division.
In the Championship Group, they’ve stayed hot at 6-1-1, scoring 22, allowing 9 and sitting 1st in the 9-team group by 2 points above Pyramids FC, to clinch their 3rd-straight league title.
A recent injury concern was Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour who injured his adductor muscle during training. His status looks good, though, as he posted on social media that he is excited to play against Messi. Ashour scored the team’s most goals this season with 13 (18 in all matches).
Next up is Wessam Abou Ali who had 10 and scored 4 of them in the team’s final game, a 6-0 win.
While Al Ahly have made 10 trips to this tournament, they’ve only won 9/23 matches, not surprising as they’ve often fallen to big clubs from the top leagues.
That will be a challenge for new head coach José Riveiro who just took over on May 29. So there is some unknown as he’s only been in charge of 1 friendly, this week, against Pachuca, which ended 1-1 and saw the Mexicans go on to win in penalties.
Inter Miami Preview
Miami finds themselves 3rd in the Eastern Conference at 8-5-3.
Their games, whether Messi is scoring or not, have all been entertaining. They’ve scored 36 and allowed 27. That’s seen their games average 3.9 GPG, the 2nd-most in MLS.
Lately, Messi has been scoring plenty. He has 5 goals, plus 3 assists in his last 3 games. That includes 2 goals each is his last two, both Miami wins of 4-2 and 5-1.
That’s a good turnaround for the Herons who had gone 0-2-2 in their previous 4. It is, though, still just 4 wins in 10.
Offensively, Miami has plenty of players who can score. But the defense has been getting shredded. They’ve not kept a clean sheet in 10 games and more alarmingly have allowed multiple goals in 9/10.
That’s obviously led to tons of Overs, with Over 2.5 going 9-0 and BTTS & Over 2.5 going 8-1.

Al Ahly vs Inter Miami Prediction
As the first game of this tournament, and in Miami, against a team from Egypt, it’s obvious FIFA wants the spotlight on Messi and are hoping for big things from Miami.
At home, you probably expect them to win. But. I can’t pretend to be an avid follower of Egyptian soccer, but is Egypt’s best that much worse than well … basically every team in MLS. I say this, because basically every team in MLS can score on Miami right now. Why can’t Cairo?
Some betting options are the BTTS is -150 and the BTTS & Over 2.5 is +105. Messi to score is +110
