Supercopa de España Final – Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction

Los Blancos vs the Blaugrana is a huge El Classico in the Spain Super Cup on January 12 at 2:00 pm EST. There is no home advantage here as the game will be played at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Let’s continue to cover this year’s match with our Real Madrid vs Barcelona prediction.

Real Madrid won this cup last year over Barca 4-1.

All-time, Barca has the most wins with 14, Madrid is next with 13 and Barca won 2 years ago over Madrid 3-1. Madrid has won 2 of the past 3 and only Bilbao in 2021 have broken up a streak of 1 of these teams winning in 7/8 years.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Head-to-Head

Real Madrid will likely be looking for revenge in this game after losing 4-0 to Barcelona back in October.

That snapped 4 straight Real wins by scores of 3-2, 4-2, 2-1 and 4-0.

There’s also been 3+ goals now in 6 straight meetings between these Spanish giants.

Real Madrid Preview

In the semis, Real Madrid dominated but in typical fashion and left it late to really pour it on. The game with Mallorca was 0-0 until goals by Bellingham, an own goal and Rodrygo scored in the 63’, 92’ and 95’ minutes.

So the score will look lopsided but it was 1-0 until stoppage time. Still the stats don’t lie and Madrid had 65% possession, and led in shots 28-8 and shots on target 11-0.

Madrid are 1st in La Liga at 13-4-2, have scored the 2nd-most goals and allowed the 5th-fewest.

Real Madrid has been busy in the last few days having played a make-up game with Valencia last Friday.

They escaped with a 2-1 win but it wasn’t easy falling behind 1-0 in the 27’ minute, then going down a man in the 79’, before fighting back with goals in the 85’ and 96’ mins to get the win.

It was much more straightforward on Monday when they routed 4th division side Deportivo Minera 5-0, with 4 different goal scorers.

Los Blancos are now riding an 8-match undefeated streak where they’ve scored multiple goals in each game and outscored opponents 26-8. In fact they’ve scored 3+ goals in 7/8.

Barcelona Preview

In the semis, Barcelona also came away with a multi-goal win and snapped an impressive undefeated streak of Bilbao. Goals by Gavi and Yamal in the 17’ and 52’ minutes paced them to a 2-0 win. They put 8 shots on target to Bilbao’s 5.

Barcelona is 3rd at 12-2-5 and have piled up the most goals with 51 while allowing 22. The 51 goals scored are 8 more than 1st-place Real Madrid.

Their form has been all over though of late and mostly poor. Their last game on Saturday in the Copa del Rey before the semifinals was a 4-0 route of lower-level side Barbastro. But that’s not much to go by. They had previously lost 2-1 and 1-0 to Atleti and even Leganes.

Overall it’s only 2 losses in 7 but just 5 wins in 11. And those wins are over Brest, Mallorca, Dortmund, Barbastro and Bilbao. 3 of those 5 are nothing to get excited about.

Supercopa de Espana Prediction

For much of the year Barca had been the class of La Liga, but they’ve fallen off and Real seem to have risen to the top and are in their best form, now 1st, 2 points above Atletu and 5 above Barca.

Barca is hard to trust right now when making your Real Madrid vs Barcelona prediction. They’re always good for offense, but defense is a question and shutting out Barbastro and then Bilbao are their only clean sheets in 8 and only their 3rd in 13. Bets on Over 2.5 have gone 8-2 of late in Barca games.

Madrid is in better form so a regulation win at +137 or simply to lift the trophy at -125 would be straight forward picks. They’re already 2-0 in Cup finals this year winning the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

While I’d favor Madrid, you’d expect goals. Lewandowski (2) Yamal and Raphinha all found the scoresheet in October and will all be in the lineup once again on Sunday for Barca. Barca also comes in with 1 day of extra rest. The BTTS & Over 2.5 is only -150 odds.

If you wanted to get creative and in some Lewandowski or Mbappe shot props you could add Lewandowski to have a shot attempt and Mbappe a shot on target. Lewy has had a shot on target in just 6/10, but at least an attempt in 9 straight and 14/15. Mbappe has had a shot on target in 13/15. That would bump the BTTS & Over 2.5 to +100 in a same-game parlay at Bet365.

Other options are:

  • Madrid to win in regulation and BTTS is +260
  • Madrid to lift trophy and BTTS is +150
  • Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction: Madrid to lift trophy and BTTS (+150)
